My Music
Receiving an acoustic guitar as a gift many years ago nudged open a door into a whole new world of exploration, interpretation and expression.
I had always written verse, but since receiving the gift, I've been writing, arranging and composing my own songs. I thoroughly enjoy the process that involves continuous experimenting and learning, all the time striving to improve and develop the craft.
The sounds that emerge are most definitely founded on and influenced by the music I have been exposed to and enjoy. My taste is eclectic and spread across a broad spectrum, ranging from folk on through pop and dance, to indie, rock and some metal.
Each song comes from its own somewhere. Occasionally a snapshot of a particular time and place, other times a slideshow compiled over a longer period.
In the recording studio the production on each song to date has been built mainly upon a platform of drum, bass and guitar, woven in such a way as to allow breathing space for some interesting intricacies that add that something extra. It has been a joy watching each one come to life and grow into the entities it feels they were intent on becoming.
Increasingly, I have grown more confident in recording acoustically at home. Sometimes the true essence of the song is captured in the initial recordings and figuring out, when the creation is closest to its rawest state. This can be by the time lapse in getting to the studio. The key, I think, is to try to select which songs sit better as stripped back versions and which could become bigger productions with further collaboration. Often this decision is decided by, amongst other factors, energy levels and life events.
Releasing some of my music, and the support and encouragement that has garnered, has lead to a greater belief in what I’ve learned to appreciate is a true passion and an important part of me.
The process really feels two-way now. In order to show my true appreciation to those who take the time to listen I feel an obligation to work hard to shape each song to its best form. This is a responsibility that excites me and inspires me to continue to explore further.
I hope that you will enjoy the results and join me on the journey.
